Lord Rama was born on Navami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month during the Madhyahna period or afternoon. Lord Rama is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. So, every year, this day millions of Hindus visit the festivals and celebrate Lord Ram’s birth.

Ram Navami signifies the arrival of divine power on the earth. It was the day when Lord Vishnu came on earth as the elder son of the King of Ayodhya Maharaja Dasharath. The purpose of Lord Vishnu’s Ramavatar was to destroy the demon king of Lanka, Ravana. A celebration of Ram Navami festival indicates the removal of negativity and the rise of divine power on the earth. The significance of the festival is that it indicates the victory of good over evil and the establishment of dharma to beat adharma.
Ram Navami is one of the biggest Hindu festivals and is celebrated in a number of ways. Some devotees bathe and dress up idols of Rama, lit a lamp in front of the idol and then place these idols in a cradle to mark his birth.
The celebration of Rama Navami is done with devotion and joy. Houses are decorated and deity idols are beautifully decorated with flowers, clothes and jewels. The celebrations include fasting, singing of devotional songs, visiting the temple and reciting hymns from Rama Charitmanas. This day is marked by Rama Katha recitals or readings of Rama stories, including the Hindu sacred epic Ramayana. Some Hindus visit a temple while others pray within their homes, and some participate in a bhajan or kirtan with music as a part of puja and aarti.

Devotees worship miniature statues of the infant Ram, washing and decorating them with bright colored clothes, and then placing them in cradles. Charitable events and saamuhika Prasada are also organized. In Maharashtra and Karnataka devotees perform fasting on this day.
In Karnataka, Sri Ramanavami is celebrated by the local Mandalis (organizations) at some places, even on footpaths, by distributing free panaka (jaggery and crushed musk melon juice) and some food. Additionally, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, the Sree Ramaseva Mandali, Chamrajpet, organizes India’s most prestigious, month-long classical music festival. The uniqueness of this 80-year-old musical extravaganza is that celebrated Indian classical musicians, irrespective of their religion, from both genres – Carnatic (South Indian) and Hindustani (North Indian) offer their musical rendition to Lord Sri Rama and the assembled audience. Devotees associated with ISKCON fast through the daylight hours.

Ram Navami Special Recipes:
Sweets are a very common offering to Gods in India. Be it the Payasam or Sabudana Kheer, Ladoos, and different varieties of sweets are offered to Lord Ram and Hanuman to impress the deities. The most common form of Kheer is the Payasam, which is made by boiling milk, sugar, and rice together until they are cooked evenly.
There are many people who fast on Ram Navami too and consume sattvic food after pooja.
In Karnataka the special recipes made for Ram Navami are:
- Kharbuja hannina panaka or muskmelon juice
- Kadale Bele Kosambari
- Hesaru Bele Kosambari
- Belada hannina panaka or wood apple juice
- Masala majjige or Masale majjige
- Bellada Panaka
- Gojjavalakki
- Spicy kadle usli or black chana sundal
- Sabakki payasa or sago kheer

श्री रामनवमी – महत्त्व, उत्सव आणि पाककृती
भारतात हिंदू संस्कृतीत खूप सण आहेत. प्रत्येक सणाचे स्वतःचे महत्त्व आहे. रामनवमी हा त्यापैकी एक महत्त्वाचा सण आहे. कारण हा दिवस भगवान श्री राम यांची जन्मतिथी आहे.
भगवान रामाचा जन्म चैत्र महिन्यामध्ये शुक्ल पक्षाच्या नवमी तिथीला माध्यानाच्या काळात किंवा दुपारी झाला. भगवान राम हा भगवान विष्णूचा सातवा अवतार आहे. दरवर्षी या दिवशी लाखो हिंदू मंदिरांना भेट देऊन भगवान रामाचा जन्मोत्सव साजरा करतात.
रामनवमीचे महत्त्व :
रामनवमी हे पृथ्वीवरील दैवी शक्तीच्या आगमनाचे प्रतीक आहे. हा तो दिवस होता जेव्हा भगवान विष्णू अयोध्येचे राजे महाराजा दशरथ यांचे जेष्ठ पुत्र म्हणून पृथ्वीवर आले होते. लंकेचा राक्षस राजा रावणाचा नाश करणे हा भगवान विष्णूंचा रामावताराचा उद्देश होता. रामनवमी उत्सव नकारात्मकता दूर करणे आणि पृथ्वीवरील दैवी शक्तीचा उदय दर्शवितो. उत्सवाचे महत्त्व असे आहे की, ते वाईटावर चांगल्याचा विजय आणि अधर्मावर मात करण्यासाठी धर्माची स्थापना दर्शवते.
रामनवमीचा उत्सव :
रामनवमी हा सर्वात मोठा हिंदू सण असल्याने अनेक प्रकारे साजरा केला जातो. काही भाविक रामाच्या मूर्तींना स्नान घालतात, वेशभूषा करतात, मूर्तीसमोर दीप प्रज्वलित करतात आणि नंतर या मूर्ती पाळणाघरात ठेवतात आणि त्यांच्या जन्माचे औचित्य साधतात. श्रीरामाचा पाळणागीत म्हणतात.

रामनवमी स्पेशल रेसिपी :
मिठाई ही भारतातील देवांना दिली जाणारा खूप सामान्य प्रसाद आहे. पायसम असो वा साबुदाणा खीर, लाडू आणि देवदेवतांना प्रभावित करण्यासाठी विविध प्रकारची मिठाई भगवान राम आणि हनुमानाला अर्पण केली जाते. खीरचा सर्वात सामान्य प्रकार म्हणजे पायसम किंवा खीर जो दूध, साखर आणि तांदूळ एकत्र शिजवून तयार केला जातो
रामनवमीलाही उपवास करणारे आणि पूजेनंतर सात्त्विक अन्नाचे सेवन करणारे अनेक लोक आहेत.
